Since 2012, Stevens Construction has been working at the Florida Hospital Carrollwood campus. Since all work has occurred while the hospital remained in operation, Stevens Construction has effectively worked with hospital staff to keep patient disruption to a minimum while keeping safety the highest priority.

The scope of this project is a renovation of existing shell and medical offices into 25 patient rooms for the orthopedic, post-surgical care unit. During demolition, it was discovered that the connections on each floor to the expansion joint built by another firm years earlier, had not been constructed properly and the connections to each floor had to be repaired prior to moving forward. This task required construction into the ICU and surgery suite and maximum coordination with hospital staff. To minimize disruption yet maintain the schedule, Stevens Construction completed this work on weekends and evenings. However, the hospital is Seventh-Day Adventist, thus no work was to be completed from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday.

Once the additional repairs were completed, Stevens Construction finished the 5th floor renovation, which required 200 plumbing penetrations below the project to tie-in to the existing plumbing. The fourth floor houses two physician offices, one of which is a wound care specialist with a hyperbaric chamber. Due to the sensitivity of this equipment, construction could not occur above the chamber while a patient was receiving treatment.

At completion, the 5th floor features 25 patient rooms, two nurse stations and therapy room. Circular patterned, vinyl plank flooring compliments the quartz solid surface countertops within the nurse stations. The patient rooms include computers for chart updates and head walls with plug-ins to medical gas.   Patient lifts were installed in five rooms to comfortably move patients after surgery.

“Many of the projects we’ve worked together on are large and complex additions and renovations to hospitals and other healthcare facilities, which are subject to the most ardent scrutiny by both code enforcement officials and the hospitals. These projects require a complete knowledge and understanding of the construction process and highly developed management skills and Mark has consistently demonstrated that ability.”
