Stevens Construction has completed more than 25 projects for the Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center within their three campuses of Sebring, Wauchula and Lake Placid. All projects occurred while the hospital remained operational, thus close coordination with hospital staff was critical.

This project was an addition of 50,000-square-feet to an occupied hospital patient wing. The first floor included 25,000-square feet of shell space with an additional 25,000-square-feet as 36 patient rooms.

The project posed several challenges, not only was this an addition on an existing hospital, but the existing structure was also located next to a lake. The Stevens Construction team worked with the design team to create an innovative solution and designed a structural foundation wall at the water’s edge that would appear from the lake side to be a decorative walk but also functions as structural support to the existing building and the addition.

Florida Hospital Medical Office Building/Ambulatory Surgery Center
Size: 40,351 square feet
Location: Sebring
Architect: HuntonBrady Architects
Completed: October 2008

Due to the history of quality and service that Florida Hospital has received from Stevens Construction; the group recommended them to Lillibridge Healthcare Services, a national health care developer, for the construction of their 40,351 square-foot medical office building to be located on the Florida Hospital Sebring campus.

The two-story facility includes a build-out of a 13,137 square-foot ambulatory surgery center (ASC) and a 5,000 square-foot prenatal Women’s Wellness Center. The remaining space serves as medical offices.

The ASC entailed the construction of four operating rooms, six pre-operating beds, nine step-down recovery beds, ten recovery beds, two procedure rooms and administrative areas.

The Women’s Wellness Center features six offices, 14 procedure rooms, a reception area and break lounge.

The facility was built to withstand hurricane winds of 115 MPH and complied with the ASCE7-98 wind code. An emergency generator was installed to maintain operations if power were disrupted.

The project is located within an occupied hospital campus, requiring the construction team to remain sensitive to the safety of the patients, visitors and staff.

Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center Catheterization Labs

Stevens Construction has completed three catheterization lab renovations at the Sebring campus. Projects entailed both renovating existing hospital space to accommodate a new catheterization lab and renovating an existing lab to install new CT equipment and upgrades.

“We were given the incredible task of taking a project from conceptual design to occupancy in only 14 months. The fact that it was a 36-bed inpatient unit, on stilts, next to the shoreline of a retention pond, with a fixed budget made it even more remarkable… Your cost estimating team was able to assist the owner in making sound decisions which aligned with the budget and long term operational goals. The tight schedule and fixed budget were both met. Additionally, your team was able to construct a high-quality addition to the hospital.”
