With a relationship spanning over ten years, Stevens Construction has completed more than 100 projects on numerous campuses of Florida Hospital.
In 2011, Florida Hospital had acquired University Community Hospital, a which had been serving Tampa since the 1960’s. The healthcare provider wanted the hospital to reflect their mission of compassion and hope, as such, they selected Stevens Construction for the complex interior and exterior revitalization while transitioning to the new hospital name. Stevens Construction has remained on the campus completing most of the hospital’s minor projects which have included the 4th FL South Tower renovation, CT renovations and OR renovations.
The exterior work entailed 202,732-square-feet of updated wall surface, the addition of over 30,000-square-feet of impact-rated glass windows on the south, main and north towers and unique up-lighting features to illuminate the hospital exterior and showcase the Florida Hospital logo.
Inside, Stevens Construction updated 355 patient rooms which included new flooring and paint. Stevens Construction also performed a finishes upgrade in the South Tower comprising of 40 patient rooms, new nurse station and offices.
Construction was completed in multiple phases to allow the hospital to continue to serve patients throughout the project. To ensure seamless operations, the Stevens Construction team met with the head nursing staff daily to coordinate all the patient room closures and turn-overs throughout the 15 phases of construction.
Because work was occurring in an occupied hospital, much of it needed to be completed throughout the night and on Sundays to minimize disruption. Since the hospital is Seventh-Day Adventist, no work was to be completed from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday.
